And so it began

(2/13/1989) "The Randy & Spiff Show" debuted on Fox 97 in Atlanta. Randy and I, after being fired in Charlotte, were lucky enough to sign a two-year deal with a third-year option at Fox 97. Well, as you know, we stayed around for many more than just three years. We owe that longevity to the amazing oldie listeners in Georgia. And to an incredible team of radio professionals who supported us and constantly made us look good. Thanks to each one of you!

One of our first celebrity guests, the late Alex Trebek, quipped to me when he walked into the studio, "You must have been an afterthought." To which I replied, "Can you put that in the form of a question, Alex?")

This day in history (February 13th):

1542: King Henry VIII of England had Catherine Howard, his fifth wife, beheaded on charges of adultery. (Peter Noone later makes Henry the 8th famous.)

1866: The gang that included Jesse James and Cole Younger committed their first bank robbery in Liberty, Mo. (Bank customers upset that FDIC would not exist until 1933.)

1949: A mob burns a radio station in Ecuador after the broadcast of H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds."

1989: The “Randy & Spiff Morning Show” debuts on Fox 97 in Atlanta. (Grandchildren of the same mob from 1949 in Ecuador threaten to burn down the radio station.)
