"Rooster"

Warm and sunny today. Took me back to when I visited my grandparents in southern Missouri so many times and so long ago. My grandpa (who passed years ago) lived to the ripe old age of 97. A simple life, a hard life, a life filled with love. I vividly recall my days spent with my grandparents and long to do it again, if only for a few hours. Here is my grandpa and one of his best friends (he had many over the years) making their way back to the house for a wonderful meal my grandma prepared. It was a mouth-watering, diabetes-inducing delight that a kid my age couldn’t get enough of. A meal that I can still smell and taste today.

I snapped this photo in 1976 when my grandpa (who we all called "Rooster") was 78 or 79, and I was in my twenties. As I jot this down, I am now 75 years old. Life … in the blink of an eye. Cherish those special moments.
