Time Traveling Shirt

I found a stash of old photos in the attic and have been converting them to digital. I haven’t accomplished much because I have tumbled down many memory rabbit holes while viewing these old treasures. Yesterday, I discovered a photo of myself from 1971 wearing my khaki Air Force uniform. I was home on leave at the time, and I’m sure that my mom made me put it on for a picture. Then I remembered that I still had that very shirt in my closet. I believe that shirt and my fatigue jacket are the only remaining pieces of clothing I have from my days in the Air Force. So, I decided to see if that shirt would fit. Heck, it’s only been 54 years since it was issued to me. To my surprise, it fit. Sure, a bit snug, but not popping off the buttons snug. I then reenacted that 1971 photo. Now I think I will reward myself and go for some frozen custard.

The shirt is still like new. Me? Not so much.

1505s (Fifteen-oh-Fives and no other term was used) was the last of the khaki uniforms issued by the Air Force. It phased out in 1978 after which time airmen no longer wore khakis, but the predecessor to our modern two-tone blue uniform in use since 1972.
